Facebook Expands It’s Live Video Feature

Facebook is starting to roll our an enhanced live video streaming service which is going to go head-on with Periscope. Orignally confined to the ‘Facebook mentions’ app for people and brands with a blue tick, Facebook quietly enabled live streaming for select users inside of the standard Facebook earlier this year.

Now the company are rolling out a full service which allowes individuals and businesses to live stream from the Facebook app. You can also stream via private Facebook groups and event pages too! The full interface is yet to arrive in the U.K. But in America right now, they have a dedicated video tab on the Facebook app, and via your desktop you can access a live map just like you can on Periscope.

Facebook have produced a media release on their newsroom website here:

Facebook Place Tips Bluetooth Beacons

Facebook are supplying free bluetooth beacons to businesses wanting to take part in their place tips program.

Users with bluetooth and location services enabled on their IOS devices will get a pop up when they enter a location with a Facebook blutetooth beacon. It can show the customer offers, ask them to like a Facebook page along with other features.

Here’s a video featuring businesses in Tampa, Florida using the Facebook bluetooth beacons:

Instagram To Increase Video Length To 60 Seconds

Big news for Instagram users, as the company have started rolling out the ability to upload videos sixty seconds in length. Previous the limit was just 15 seconds. Vine allowes 6 second videos, Twitter 30 seconds.

A new sixty second limit for Instagram is a perfect length for businesses wanting to use the platform to promote themselves to their existing and potential customers. Previously one minute videos were only available to paying advertisers.

A reason for the increase is that over the past 6 months, video viewing time on the app has risen by 40%!

Instagram have also announced that they are reinstating the ability to use multiple clips from your camera roll on IOS devices to make videos. A help guide on how to do this can be found here:

Facebook Secretly Launch New Local Services Business Directory

Facebook have secretly launched a local services business directory here : It could work as a new tab on Facebook for both desktop and mobile, or it could spawn its own app like Facebook messenger.

This directory is sure to compete with Google Local when people are looking for local services.

So far, over 80 types of services are listed ranging from plumbing, beauty, home care, pet services, medical, health, financial, and DIY services.

Star Ratings, number of reviews and check-ins are set to be big ranking factors on this directory.

Johnston Press Open To Selling Off Newspaper Titles

Oh what joy. The news i’ve been waiting for now for about 3 years. Johnston Press have admitted (without admitting) that many of their newspapers have hit the wall.

My local Johnston Press Title ‘The Mid Sussex Times’ has been put in group 3 of 4. 1 being the best, 4 being the worst.

Unsurprisingly, the West Sussex County Times newspaper based in Horsham – where ALL the Sussex reporters are now located – is in group two and this seen as more important and profitable than the Mid Sussex Times.

Johnston Press have indicated that they would sell off some of their titles……. yet they’ve come out and said they are not very desirable, so why would other newspaper groups want to buy them!

JP also have about £180 of debt they need to pay off, and as for their share price, well that’s totally tanked over the past year and currently sits at around 30p…. i’ll just go check that, hold on!….. 38.25p at the close of trading on Thursday 21st January 2016. This time last year is was £1.68
